I performed in Silver as part of ONCE OVER TIME, a major retrospective of Cristina Caprioli's work presented at Tanz im August in Berlin in August 2022. The retrospective drew from over 22 works spanning two decades, and Silver was presented as the opening piece of the Leafing series: three immersive installations shown across consecutive weeks at KINDL, the Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Berlin.
Silver fills a space with one hundred silver-coloured coats, worn by both performers and audience. The coats turn everyone into something else: ghosts, skeletons, figures from another atmosphere. The boundary between performer and spectator dissolves. In that shared silver landscape, unexpected duets form and dissolve, wild and idiosyncratic. The piece ends with a short film by Mateusz Herczka that transforms the cool silver emptiness into colour and feeling.
The photographs were made during the Berlin run, at KINDL. The challenge was the light: the coats seemed to generate their own illumination, and the camera could only record what was reflected. These images are part of Caprioli's archive of the retrospective.
