I had never shot a wedding before this one. Paula and Hugo are friends, and when they asked I said yes without hesitating. That felt like the right reason to do it.
The approach was documentary throughout: moving through the day as invisibly as possible, following the rhythm of it, not directing anything. Staying close to the people without interfering. The images should feel found rather than made, and with friends that's easier — you know how they move, when to step back, when to get closer.
Their wedding was intimate and unhurried, a small gathering in a place that mattered. Two people at the edge of something new, and the people around them, and the light of a particular afternoon.
