Tillie is a new piece by choreographer Tanja Andersson. The poster commission asked for images that could carry the character of the work into a single still frame. Andersson's choreography has a particular quality of tenderness and absurdity held together, and the brief was to find a visual language that held both.
We worked in studio over an afternoon, building the image through light and proximity rather than elaborate staging. The final frames have an intimacy to them, a closeness to the subject that feels less like documentation and more like being in the same room.
The poster image was selected from a narrow set of frames where everything aligned. It will accompany the piece through its premiere and tour.
